5 benefits of taking time for yourself


Happy Weekend everyone,

I hope you are doing great. I just finished a life coaching session with a client and I went back to my thinking of self-care. I recently witnessed how poor self-care can take a mental toll on you. So as I was taking note for my next session with this client, it crossed my mind to debate about the benefits of taking time for yourself. Research shows that people who are comfortable with time alone experience increased happiness and better stress management. Enjoying time alone is linked to better life satisfaction and lower rates of depression. So here's 5 benefits of taking time for yourself.

  • Improve mental health;
  • Spark creativity: Time without structure lets your mind wander so you can spark new ideas.
  • Boost self-esteem: Need another reason to schedule out time for yourself? You can boost your self-esteem by choosing time alone for personal reflection and goal setting.
  • Create empathy for others:When you have time to reflect, you can increase your empathy and compassion for others. Instead of spending your time in the usual circle of friends and family, take a little time for yourself. It can broaden your perspective, open your mind up to new ideas and prevent what’s known as “group mentality,” where people are heavily influenced by those who surround them.
  • Heighten emotional intelligence: Spending time alone can also heighten your emotional intelligence. 
How do you create more time for reflection? Plan or schedule out time for yourself, just like you would for a meeting or lunch with a friend. Close your door. It’s a simple but effective way to make time for yourself. You can also decide to practice self-care during this time by doing your nails or hair, a face mask or simply book a spa appointment.

  5. Great message, Moumous! I have to take time for myself daily or the anxiety and stress of life just gets to be too much. I generally lock myself in my bedroom for about an hour and do yoga and meditation or sometimes I just escape to read a book in the quiet. I really like your outfit in this post.
