Hi everyone,
Women come in all shapes and sizes, so how do you find clothes that are flattering your specific body type? The key is to know your proportions, and use fashion to accentuate your best features--and hide everything else. In this post, I am sharing some pointers on how to determine your body shape. Of course, it is always better to seek help from a professional if unsure or would like to know more about your body shape. In the meantime, here are the 5 main body shapes.

Apple Shape:
The apple shape is also referred to as a circular or round shape O. Here are some characteristics that often apply:
- Your shoulders, bust, waist, and hips are fairly uniform—but your shoulders and hips may be slightly narrower.
- Your waistline is rather undefined.
- You have a large bust.
An Apple shape tend to a carry a little weight or tend to gain weight easily around their midriff.
Rectangular Shape:
A rectangular shape is also referred to as a straight or H. Here are some characteristics that often apply to help you determine if you fall under this category:
- Your shoulders, bust, and hip measurements are fairly uniform.
- Your waist is more straight than curvy.
- Your body shape resembles that of Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, or Kate Middleton.
Pear Shape:
A pear body shape is also referred to as a triangular frame (triangle) or A. Here are some characteristics that often apply:
- Your hips and thighs are wider than your shoulders and bust.
- Your have a defined waist that is narrow compared to your hips.
- Your body shape resembles that of Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, or America Ferrera.
Inverted Triangle Shape:
An inverted Triangle body shape is also referred as a V. Here are some characteristics that often apply:
- Your shoulders are the broadest part of your body.
- Your bust may be larger.
- Your hips and waist are narrow
Hourglass shape:
An hourglass body shape is also referred to as an 8 shape. Here are some characteristics that often apply:
- Your shoulders and hips are about equal width.
- You have a defined waist.
- You likely have a larger bust and derrière.
- You describe yourself as curvy.

Please remember: The fact that you are overweight doesn't mean that you are automatically a round shape (apple or circular) . Also, the fact that you have a long or a short torso doesn't impact your body shape either. Of course, there are complementary tips to dress your body if you have a longer or shorter torso, if you are tall or if you are a petite woman or if you have some weight around your midriff. Knowing your body shape helps you dress better so that you can feel good and look good which is definitely a good place to start to gain "Self-Confidence".

I am obsessed with these outfits!! That black asymmetrical top is so cool. I think I'm the X shape you were talking about because I'm kind of an hourglass shape but definitely toned down.

ReplyDeleteI will say that I am a toned hourglass shape without the derriere
Yeah :-) you look more of a top hourglass - you can be an X , a top hourglass or a bottom hourglass... Exact measurements will tell :-)
DeleteThat's an incredibly chic outfit - the gold colour is so flattering. I love how you've worn a scarf as a top. Thanks for linking up at #WowOnWednesday.

DeleteI love this outfit, Moumous! It so perfectly summertime! I always get confused about my body type. Sometimes I think I am a rectangle, but then I see apple, round, or top hourglass shapes when I look in the mirror. I have no idea really! I have big boobs, no butt, and no waist definition except the belly fat that bulges frontward! Thanks for sharing and linking up with me.
