What is your body shape?

Hi everyone,

Women come in all shapes and sizes, so how do you find clothes that are flattering your specific body type? The key is to know your proportions, and use fashion to accentuate your best features--and hide everything else. In this post, I am sharing some pointers on how to determine your body shape. Of course, it is always better to seek help from a professional if unsure or would like to know more about your body shape. In the meantime, here are the 5 main body shapes.

Apple Shape:
The apple shape is also referred to as a circular or round shape O. Here are some characteristics that often apply:
  1. Your shoulders, bust, waist, and hips are fairly uniform—but your shoulders and hips may be slightly narrower.
  2. Your waistline is rather undefined.
  3. You have a large bust.
An Apple shape tend to a carry a little weight or tend to gain weight easily around their midriff.

Rectangular Shape:
A rectangular shape is also referred to as a straight or H. Here are some characteristics that often apply to help you determine if you fall under this category:
  1. Your shoulders, bust, and hip measurements are fairly uniform.
  2. Your waist is more straight than curvy.
  3. Your body shape resembles that of Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, or Kate Middleton.

Pear Shape:
A pear body shape is also referred to as a triangular frame (triangle) or A. Here are some characteristics that often apply:
  1. Your hips and thighs are wider than your shoulders and bust.
  2. Your have a defined waist that is narrow compared to your hips.
  3. Your body shape resembles that of Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, or America Ferrera.

Inverted Triangle Shape:
An inverted Triangle body shape is also referred as a V. Here are some characteristics that often apply:
  1. Your shoulders are the broadest part of your body.
  2. Your bust may be larger.
  3. Your hips and waist are narrow

Hourglass shape:
An hourglass body shape is also referred to as an 8 shape. Here are some characteristics that often apply:
  1. Your shoulders and hips are about equal width.
  2. You have a defined waist.
  3. You likely have a larger bust and derrière.
  4. You describe yourself as curvy.

As I said before, don't worry if none of the above body shapes matches your figure. In fact, there are a total of 20 body shapes. Exact body shape is determined by taking your measurements using a cloth tape. For instance, if I had to pick one shape for my body type from the list, I would go for the hourglass figure but I am actually an X which is a more toned down version of the hourglass figure also known as an 8 shape.

Please remember: The fact that you are overweight doesn't mean that you are automatically a round shape (apple or circular) . Also, the fact that you have a long or a short torso doesn't impact your body shape either. Of course, there are complementary tips to dress your body if you have a longer or shorter torso, if you are tall or if you are a petite woman or if you have some weight around your midriff. Knowing your body shape helps you dress better so that you can feel good and look good which is definitely a good place to start to gain "Self-Confidence".
